
Vitamin D reduces the risk of developing colon cancer. People who have high concentrations of vitamin D in their blood have a 40 percent less chance of getting the disease.
This is the result of a large European study in which the University of Utrecht participated. The results were published in the scientific journal British Medical Journal.
The body produces vitamin D when skin is exposed to sun light, but also foods like fatty fish provide the body with vitamin D. The research did not show however that extra vitamin D in food or supplements can prevent cancer, says a researcher.
