Many people do not seem to know how much salt is put in different foods and what health hazards they could form.
Of the 2000 parents who were questioned only a small part of them knew that sweet products often contain a lot more salt than savory foods. Some brands that make blueberry muffins contain more salt than a bag of chips.
Also more than half of them did not know that one gram of sodium (Na) is equal to 2.5 grams of salt. On some labels the salt content is listed as sodium, so it is important that people know that that is a different value than the salt content.
The British scientists also saw that many people are not aware of the dangers of salt. They often did know that there is a risk for high blood pressure. But they did not know that a structural high salt intake can lead to stomach cancer, asthma and osteoporosis.
