Soy sauce good alternative for salt

Ohsawa Soy Sauce and Tamari - Nama Shoyu, 10 ozSoy sauce can be a good alternative for salt. This way the rising problems of overconsumption of salt through our food can be reduced.

The research of the University of Wageningen in collaboration with the scientists at Kikkoman Europe shows that adding naturally brewed soy sauce can be a good salt replacement in food.

By using soy sauce the salt content of for example salad dressings and soups were reduced by 50 and 17 percent without effecting the taste or how the food is perceived.

In Western countries on average 10 to 12 grams of salt is consumed daily in stead of the recommended 5 to 6 grams of salt per day. A high consumption of salt causes high blood pressure which in turn can lead to cardiovascular disease.

60 to 80 percent of the consumed salt comes from prepacked products and ready made meals and it not added by people themselves to their food.
