Eating peanuts and peanut butter reduces the chance of getting cardiovascular disease. This is the result of a research done by scientists at the Harvard Medical School.
When you eat peanuts or have a teaspoon of peanut butter at least five times a week, you can reduce the chance of a heart attack by 44 percent.
Eating peanuts lowers cholesterol and also reduces the chance of getting infections.
For the research the scientists followed 6000 women with type 2 diabetes between 1980 and 2002. Type 2 diabetes increases the chance of getting a heart attack or stroke.
Every two years the participants were asked to fill in a questionnaire about their eating habits. When the researchers compared the results, it was concluded that the people who ate nuts regularly enjoyed the best protection.
