Exercising does not make you sleep better

It is often thought that exercising during the day makes you sleep longer, but now it has been shown that you actually sleep shorter.

The researchers had expected as well that the people, who exercised the most during the day, would sleep longer, but the opposite turned out to be true. The more active the volunteers in the research were, the shorter they slept. On the days that the volunteers were the least active they slept on average a 42 minutes longer per night.

The volunteers slept the best and the longest on the days that they hadn’t or hardly had exercised. This says Dr. Arn Eliassin of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

The researchers also expected that the people who had slept the best would be the most active the next day, but this was also not true. Those who had slept the best turned out to be the least active the next day.

I must be one of the few exceptions, I just started a new exercise regimen and I’m sleeping longer because of it. Before, I was getting about 6-7 hours of sleep now I’m getting 8-9 hours of sleep. It might just be a short term thing though.
