Receiving e-mails with health and diet tips are an effective tool for supporting you in following a diet
This is the result of a study that has been publish in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
The test subjects in the research received reminders and tips at different times in their mailbox. Beforehand they had selected what they wanted to focus on: exercise more, eat more fruit and vegetables or eating less sugars and products with saturated fats. Every week the test subjects were given a relatively easy goal in their email, like taking a walk during a coffee break of having a salad for lunch.
After 16 weeks the program turned out be very successful. The subjects who had said they wanted to exercise more, exercised one hour per week more than the control group. They other groups had also reached their goals. According to head researcher Barbara Sternfeld the email messages remind you that you have set a goal for yourself and that is apparently what people need to persist.
