Do you often have problems concentrating? Maybe you walk too much in an urban environment.
Psychologist at the University of Michigan gave 2 groups of volunteers an assignment that tested their memory and attention span. After finishing the assignment one group was sent into nature for a walk. The other group went for a walk through a busy shopping mall.
After returning from the walk both groups had to redo the assignment. The results of the people who took a walk in nature were significantly better than those of the volunteers who went to the mall.
The researchers then had the test done by 2 other groups. But instead of letting them walk in nature or in a mall, they showed them pictures of green surroundings or an urban environment. Again the group that were shown green surroundings did far better.
The explanation offered is that an urban environment gives you too many impressions making it harder for your brain to focus on an assignment. So if you have an intense job, take a walk in the park instead of going to the local mall for your lunch break.

I always feel more relaxed, rejuvenated, and focused after spending some time outdoors. Even moving my laptop onto the patio does wonders when I’m writing.
