Weight influenced by intestinal bacteria

Eating nothing and still gaining weight. Up till now people who claimed to eat nothing and still gain weight were not taken seriously. But according to researchers this could be true.

Researchers at the University of Missouri have found that people who are obese and people who have a normal BMI have different intestinal bacteria.

The researchers put a number of mice in a sterile environment since birth, which made sure they had a completely infection free intestine. One half of these mice were given intestinal bacteria of obese mice and the other half were given the intestinal bacteria of slim mice. Both groups of mice received the same diet, but the first group of mice gained more weight than the second group of mice.

The researches conclude that the composition of the intestinal bacteria have influence on the amount of energy that the body absorbs from food.
