German researchers have discovered bacteria at farms that can possibly prevents the origination of allergies.
The researchers found the bacteria in cow dung and in raw milk. Inoculating mice with these bacteria proved to have a positive effect on the immune system.
Children that grew up in farms in Germany and Switzerland participated in this study. Children in the comparison group grew up in the country side, but not on a farm.
The children from the comparison group had a lot more allergies than the children who grew up on a farm. The researchers hope that more bacteria can be found which have protective properties for developing a possible vaccine.
