A dosage of aspirin can possibly help to prevent liver damage that is caused by paracetamol or alcohol. At least this effect was measured in mice by researchers at Yale University.
The researchers discovered that the damage that paracetamol and alcohol can do to the liver can cause different inflammatory reactions. The infections make the liver problems even worse. Aspirin prevents this reaction from taking place.
Mice who had received an overdose of paracetamol survived more often when they received a dose of aspirin afterwards. If this also works in humans, this could prevent a lot of pain and suffering in liver patients.
But as long as the effects of aspirin on liver damage has not been clinically proven, it is not recommended to take aspirin for this reason. Too much aspirin can lead to bleedings and stomach problems.
