Chicken soup can lower blood pressure

Do you suffer from high blood pressure? Then put some chicken soup on your menu. It was already known that the meat of the breast of the chicken contains a protein called collagen. Collagen can lower the blood pressure. A chicken breast contains too little collagen though to have a significant effect.

Now researchers at the University of Hiroshima have discovered that the meat of the legs and the toes of the chicken do contain enough collagen to have an effect on the blood pressure. And those parts of the chicken often end up in chicken soup. The scientists put together a medicine consisting of the meat of chicken legs and gave this to rats. The blood pressure of the rats went down because of it. The protein possibly works the same as a blood pressure lowering medicine.
