Tai Chi helps against arthritis pain

The traditional Chinese art of movement and meditation Tai Chi can reduce arthritic pain in the knee. Researchers from Boston think that Tai Chi can give a huge increase in quality of life for arthritis patients. Not only can the movements reduce the pain caused by arthritis, there was also less signs of depression among arthritis patients. Patients could move better and felt better in general compared to patients who did not practice Tai Chi.

The scientists at Tufts Medical Center investigated forty people who were over 60 years old and had suffered from sever arthritis in the knee for more than 10 years. Half of the group practiced Tai Chi for 2 hours per week for a period of 12 weeks. The other half of the test group spend the same amount of time doing regular stretch exercises.

Tai Chi is a Chinese form of movement and meditation. You slowly change to different predefined postures. These postures only exert light pressure on the joints and limbs. Tai Chi can increase your muscle strength, balance and flexibility.
