Lavender helps with fear for the dentist

The researchers at the King’s College in London studied the effects of lavender before a visit to the dentist on 340 people. While they were waiting they were asked to fill in a questionnaire.

Half of the group were exposed to the smell of lavender, the other half was not. The group that was not in the waiting room with the smell of lavender had a fear level of 10.7. The group that was exposed to the smell of lavender only reported a fear level of 7.4.

The lavender smell only have a positive effect directly before the dentist visit. After the visit the fear for the dentist was back to the same level as before.
