Soy is bad for sperm

Tips for healthy spermOnly half a glass of soy milk already can reduce the amount of sperm cells that a man produces. This statement is made by scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Nearly 100 men who went to a fertility clinic between 2000 and 2006 participated in this research. They had to tell how many soy based products they had eaten in the last three months. A glass of soy milk or a portion of tempeh, tofu or a soy burger counted as one portion of soy.

Men who ate one portion of soy once every 2 days already had a considerable reduced sperm production. The amount of sperm cells in these men was recuded by about 40 percent. The effect was the strongest in men who suffered from obesity.

In the study the effects of the vegetable form of the female hormone oestrogen, called fyto-oestrogen, was investigated. Soy products contain high quantities of this hormone and have an effect on male sperm production.
