Men who perform heavy physical labor all day have 45 percent less chance of prostate cancer. Men who only do heavy physical labor every now and then do not have a reduced chance of prostate cancer. These are the results of an American study.
In the study almost 400 men with prostate cancer were compared with 1800 healthy men of the same age. All men worked in a nuclear power and space technology factory in California. In general they worked as welders, electricians or mechanics.
A high BMI (Body Mass Index) seems to highten the chance of prostate cancer some what, but this needs further research.
Earlier studies have shown that physical exertion reduces the chance of different kinds of cancer. Now also the chance of prostate cancer seems to be reduced by heavy physical labor.
