In a study conducted under 1050 people with type 2 diabetes their zinc levels were measured. After 7 years 156 people of this group had died from coronary heart disease and 254 people had had a heart attack (which had fatal consequences in some instances).
Those who had a low level of zinc had a significant greater risk to get a heart attack than those diabetics who had a normal level of zinc. The chance of getting a heart attack was 37% higher in the group with low zinc levels than those with normal zinc levels. The chance of getting a fatal heart attack was even 70% higher in the group of diabetics with a low level of zinc.
