Light soft drinks can cause metabolic syndrome too

Better stick to home made lemonadeDrinking the light version of soft drinks increases your chances of getting metabolic syndrome. Light soft drinks are in that respect as bad as eating deep fried foods.

A western diet, which is rich in fats, sugars and red meat, increases the chances of metabolic syndrome with 18%. A healthy diet with lots of vegetables, fruit, fish and poultry doesn’t reduce the risk for metabolic syndrome. This was discovered by scientists in the US in a test group of 9500 people who were monitored for 9 years.

The group that ate the most deep fried foods had 25% more chance of getting metabolic syndrome than those who ate the least deep fried foods. People who drank a can of diet soft drink daily increased their risk of metabolic syndrome by 34%, compared to people who didn’t.

Metabolic syndrome is a combination of 4 conditions: high blood pressure, high cholesterol and blood sugar levels and obesity. This conditions increases the risk of getting cardiovascular problems and diabetes.
