After reviewing the diets of 32000 men, John Hopkins University researchers determined that men who consume the most lutein-rich vegetables have the lowest risk of developing an enlarged prostate, a condition that leads to urination difficulties. Lutein, a pigment found in many vegetables, protects your prostate cells from growth-inducing stress, says study author Sabine Rohrman. The scientists found that those least likely to suffer a swollen prostate ate 1 cup of raw (or half a cup cooked) spinach, kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, celery or peas a day.
